6 Common Myths About Chiropractic Care

There are many myths out there about chiropractic care. Educate yourself about the truth of chiropractic care—what it is and its benefits. Knowing how to use chiropractic care in your life to benefit your needs can help you live a healthy life free of body aches, back pain, and other pain. Today, we’re debunking some of those myths out there about chiropractic care.

1. Adjustments are dangerous.

When performed by a trained and licensed professional, adjustments are very safe. The purpose of an adjustment is to restore your body to its natural state, returning its flexibility and mobility. This will also help to relieve soreness and stiffness. A chiropractic adjustment is much safer than surgery or painkillers. Symptoms will likely worsen if not addressed. Having a chiropractic adjustment may actually be your safest option.

2. Once you start treatments, you’ll have to continue the rest of your life.

Having your spine adjusted once in a while is part of a healthy lifestyle, but it is not required that you receive any care outside the ordinary checkup and adjustment. If you require specialized care for some time, that care will not necessarily continue for the rest of your life. It’s like going to the dentist regularly for a checkup—you should go regularly but you’ll only have to deal with cavities once in a while, or maybe not at all.

3. Chiropractors are not “real” doctors.

Chiropractors go through doctoral graduate school, have to complete an allotted number clinical and lab hours, must pass national and state board exams. Many chiropractors have Ph.D. level education based on nutrition and physical science. Chiropractors must complete continuing education to keep their license current. They must stay current on all the latest natural medicine practices and research. Long story short—chiropractors are not M.D.’s but they are highly educated and trained medical professionals.

4. It doesn’t really work.

Chiropractic care is a natural remedy that can relieve back pain, headaches, ear infections, neck pain, arthritis and joint pain, healthy pregnancy, blood pressure, and other pains. It’s a remedy that doesn’t use drugs or surgical methods.

5. Chiropractic care is only for back pain.

It’s true that chiropractic care is an antidote for back pain, but it can also treat other bodily pain. Your body is all connected. When your spine is out of adjustment, it can impact your neck, your arms, legs, and more. Chiropractic therapy is can help with ailments such as fatigue, autoimmune disorders, diabetes, headaches, and pregnancy related pain. Chiropractic care includes more than adjustments and massages, there will also be exercises, stretches, and possibly some physical therapy.

6. It’s only for adults.

Children and even babies can also benefit from chiropractic care. Taking children to the chiropractor can help kids to prevent future back pain and start healthy habits early. Babies sometimes have back pain and are unable to communicate that pain, so they just cry. They haven’t yet developed the muscles they need to support their back and neck.
