Don’t Suffer With Low Back Pain!!

Low back pain is common….really common.  In fact almost 100% of people will suffer some type of low back pain at some point in their life.  It is the #2 cause of missed time at work in the U.S.  In the world back pain is the #1 reason for disability.  Over half of all adults experience back pain yearly.  Some people deal with it on a daily basis.

WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF YOUR BACK PAIN!

There are many causes of back pain.  Sometimes the pain could be caused by the discs.  The discs in your low back provide cushion for your spine and space for the nerves that exit your spinal cord and travel to different parts of your body.  As we age our discs get thinner and weaker.  Add to that jobs that require heavy lifting or lot’s of sitting.  Both of those things can cause the discs to wear out more rapidly or even to become injured.

Another cause of low back pain is from the facet joints.  Facet joints are the small joints that allow for the movement of your spine.  They are not large joints but they do take a lot of pressure from all of the stresses we apply to our spine.  When our spine gets overworked or out of alignment these joints become inflamed and that can cause pain.

Muscles can also be a cause of low back pain.  In my opinion this is not as common as pain that comes from the discs of the joints.  Many times the muscle pain is compensatory to the joint or disc pain.  However overuse of the paraspinal muscles or underuse can cause the muscles to become tight and very stiff.  However when there are underlying problems in the discs or the facet joints, these will cause the muscles to tighten to protect those areas.

SO WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT BACK PAIN?
First is to find out where the pain is coming from.  Is it from the discs, joints or muscles?  Second, once you know where the pain is coming from you can design a treatment program to help you feel your best.

As chiropractic physicians we are experts in diagnosing and treating people with low back pain.  Other than car accident injuries it is probably the most common reason someone comes to our office.

When someone with back pain comes into our office we do a thorough history and evaluation.  Sometimes this includes x-rays in the office or getting other imaging done, like MRI, at an outside facility.  Once we know what the cause of the pain is we can work together to find a solution.

Our goal is to help you get out of pain as quickly as possible.  Many times our patients will come in right after they ‘tweak’ their back and we can get them better in just a visit or 2.  Other times if the pain has become chronic and gone on for months or years it can take some time to get it better.

Fortunately in our office we have a multifaceted approach to treating your low back pain.  From gentle specific chiropractic adjustments to improve spinal motion and alignment and massage therapy from licensed massage therapists to work on the tight and stiff muscles.  We also offer spinal decompression treatment, which is an amazing treatment option for those suffering with disc pain or sciatica.  We will also help with home rehab to ensure you know how to manage your low back for years to come.
